PM's India visit agendas may include Pancheshwar Project

KATHMANDU: Matter relating to the implementation of Pancheshwar Multipurpose Development Project is likely to be one of the agendas of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal's forthcoming state visit to India.

With this, preparations have started for holding in-depth discussions on the issue.

The Prime Minister is scheduled to visit India on Thursday.

The project has remained halted for the past 23 years due to various reasons.

The PM’s India visit will focus more on early execution of pending projects.

It may be noted that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his Nepal's visit, one-and-half years ago, had pledged to give top priority to the implementation of the Pancheshwor Hydro Power Project.

Joint-Secretary at the Energy Ministry Dinesh Ghimire expressed his hope that there would be significant discussions about the implementation of the Pancheshwor Hydro Power Project during the PM's forthcoming India visit.

Likewise, another possible agenda of PM's visit is to discuss the initiation of the new Butwal-Gorakhpur Project known as second inter-country transmission line, said Joint Secretary Ghimire.

Other main programmes include the issues relating to an import of additional 250 megawatts electricity from the Dhalkebar-Muzaffarpur transmission line.

It has been learned that the issue of power trade agreement between Nepal and India is also at the centre of the agenda.
