KATHMANDU, AUGUST 8

The International Relations and Tourism Committee of the House of Representatives (HoR) has directed the government to establish an independent investigation committee composed of experts to assess the implementation of aviation safety standards.

During its meeting on Thursday, the Committee instructed the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation to form the investigation panel within 15 days. The committee's mandate will include recommending actions against those responsible for any violations and ensuring policy reforms while investigating the status of aviation safety standards in the country.

Committee Chairperson Raj Kishor Yadav stated that the Ministry was specifically tasked with evaluating the enforcement of aviation-related laws and adherence to international practices in the sector.

Yadav noted that the decision was made following consultations with the Tourism Minister, the Ministry's Secretary, and the Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal.

The parliamentary committee also urged the government to promptly table the bill designed to consolidate and amend laws related to the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal, as well as the bill concerning Nepal's aviation services.

Additionally, the Committee directed the Tourism Ministry to submit reports from past committees and taskforces established by the government on plane crashes, aviation safety, and regulations. The Committee emphasized the need for a distinct policy on aviation safety, despite the existence of a broader aviation policy.
