KATHMANDU, AUGUST 26
The Paropakar Maternity and Women's Hospital in Thapathali provided services to 300,952 women during the fiscal year 2080-81 BS (2023-24). Of these, 25,116 women received maternity care services, while 5,816 benefited from gynecological services.
This information was shared today at a program celebrating the hospital's 65th anniversary.
Hospital Director Dr. Shree Prasad Adhikari reported that 2,787 newborns were admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), and 454 admissions were made to the Maternity Intensive Care Unit (MICU). These figures do not include the recipients of Outpatient Department (OPD) services.
Additionally, 194,490 patients visited the hospital's OPD during the fiscal year.
The hospital was established on Bhadau 10, 2016 BS (August 26, 1959), on the occasion of Shree Krishna Janmastami, with an initial capacity of 40 beds. It has since expanded to a 489-bed facility.
Among the 25,116 women admitted for maternity care, 22,379 gave birth to 22,613 babies. Of these, 9,652 (43 percent) were delivered via cesarean section, a four percent increase from the previous year.
Last year, 9,011 women seeking fertility treatments visited the OPD, with 222 receiving intrauterine insemination (IUI) services and 20 benefiting from in vitro fertilization (IVF) services.
For the first time in Nepal, the hospital has introduced a 'Neonatal Screening Test,' starting from August 13, through the initiative of the Ministry of Health and Population. Additionally, the hospital has recently begun offering mental health services.
In celebration of the anniversary, awards were given to healthy babies in three categories: from birth to 45 days, 45 days to 6 months, and 6 months to one year.
