Five parties' meet underway at Baluwatar

KATHMANDU:  In a bid to resolve the existing differences over the Parliamentary Regulations, a meeting of ruling coalition members and the main opposition Nepali Congress meet is underway at Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli's official residence in Baluwatar on Saturday.

The Regulations have been stalled as parties are at odds on its strength.

Ruling partners have been pleading for a 15-member panel, while the main opposition party has been pleading for retaining the 73-member body.

Parliamentary hearings for appointments of Chief Justice, 11 Supreme Court Justices and 21 ambassadors could not be held despite their nominations due to disputes among the major parties about formation of the Parliamentary Hearing Special Committee (PHSC).

The Parliamentary Regulations Drafting Committee on May 2 had decided to forward the draft regulation to the full House with two opinions on the strength of the PHSC for discussion and for taking an appropriate decision.

The full House on Friday had decided to hold deliberations on the draft for the final decision.
