PCL intake begins in TU campuses

KATHMANDU: A week after the Tribhuvan University announcement of opening admissions in the Proficiency Certificate Level, most of the campuses affiliated with the TU today distributed forms for the fresh intake of SLC graduates in various faculties.

The campuses will accept admission forms till Dashain while classes will be held after Tihar. RR Campus chief Gopal Pokharel said admissions were opened there today. "We knew about the agreement few weeks ago but received a letter from the university only on Friday. The campus meeting decided to open it from today," he told The Himalayan Times. The students can submit the forms by September 18 to the campus. According to Pokharel, the number of students enrolled in the campus was decreasing year by year. "The enrolment dropped to 1,500 in 2008 from 3,000 in the preceding year," he said, guessing it to be 500 this year. "This is due to the delayed admission and politics of student unions in the campus. Private colleges have lured the students who value study," he said.

Rajendra Thakuri, section officer, examination section at Public Youth Campus, said the few seats available with them were never fulfilled in the past few years due to the delayed admission. "Last year, only 300 of the 600 management faculty seats were fulfilled," he added.

Prakash Sapkota, president, Free Students' Union at PYC, guaranteed the admission of the students who had submitted the forms to the FSU prior to the TU's announcing admissions. "We charged Rs 100 for form and Rs 3,000 for admission. The forms will be submitted to the campus administration," he said.
