Kathmandu, May 31

A writ petition was filed today at the Supreme Court seeking to bar Justice Gopal Parajuli from becoming the next chief justice after current CJ Sushila Karki retires from service in a week.

Advocate Bikash Giri said he filed the writ petition at the apex court saying Justice Parajuli’s date of birth was controversial and the status of his school leaving certificate was also not clear. The petitioner said that a bulletin published by Judicial Council stated Parajuli’s date of birth as January 4, 1953, but the citizenship certificate Parajuli received from Kathmandu district a few years ago stated a different date of birth.

The petitioner also demanded that controversy over Justice Parajuli’s date of birth should be probed. The petitioner also demanded that the Judicial Council make the retirement date of justice public.
