Phone services disrupted

Kathmandu, July 2:

Telephones in the Shankhamul and Buddhanagar areas of Kathmandu have stopped ringing from yesterday after some miscreants damaged the cables at Dhobikhola, the point from where connections are distributed to the two areas.

After an inspection of the distribution point at Dhobikhola, an official at Nepal Telecom said someone must have done this to create problems for either the NTC or the people living in the areas. Bishnu Dhakal, Chabahil branch chief of Nepal Telecom, said thousands of people living in the areas have been affected by the telephone service disruption. He added that the NTC will have to bear a loss of millions of rupees due to the disruption.

He said that if weather permits, the cables will be fixed by tomorrow and connections restored.
