A photojournalist was injured after the police resorted to rampant baton charging as protests were ongoing in Min Bhawan, Kathmandu on Saturday.

Photojournalist Nimesh Jung Rai alleged that he was attacked by Nepal Police personnel while he was covering the protest organised by student unions affiliated to the opposition alliance, at Min Bhawan.

Releasing a statement, The Photojournalist Club has urged authorities to investigate into and take action against the police personnel who attacked Rai. The club has further drawn serious attention of the concerned officials to many instances of such repeated attacks on photojournalists while carrying out their assignments.

Stating that it is the right of the citizens to protest peacefully in the federal democratic republican system, the Photojournalist Club, Nepal has further urged the Government of Nepal, including the security forces, to create a conducive environment for free communication of information and freedom of communication.
