PHSC okays Ayodhi Prasad Yadav for CEC
KATHMANDU: A meeting of the Parliamentary Hearing Special Committee (PHSC) on Friday unanimously endorsed the name of Ayodhi Prasad Yadav as the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC).
The PHSC's approval has paved the way for appointing Yadav, who is currently the Acting Chief Election Commissioner, to the top post at the Election Commission.
According to the constitutional provision, the President will appoint the CEC following the endorsement by the PHSC based on the recommendation of the Constitutional Council.
Responding to lawmakers questions, Yadav said that the Commission was ready to hold local body election within mid-December if laws required for it would be formulated and approved by mid-August.
Two complaints were filed against Yadav at the Committee, arguing that Yadav’s parliamentary hearing should not be held until the writ filed against his reappointment at the Supreme Court was decided upon.
The hearing on the nomination of Chief Justice would be held on Sunday.
Acting Chief Justice Sushila Karki has been nominated for the post of Chief Justice.
