Pistol seized from Godavari house, suspect at large

Kathmandu, October 11

Police seized a country-made pistol from the house of Laxmi Prasad Shahi in Godavari Municipality-11, Lalitpur, on Wednesday.

According to police, the pistol was found hidden in the room of his son Raj Kiran Shahi, 36, during a raid when he was not at home. An official said police had launched a manhunt to find the whereabouts of Raj Kiran, who is at large.

The official informed that the raid was part of a search operation to nab the culprits of the murder of Sharad Kumar Gauchan, president of Federation of Contractors’ Association of Nepal. Gauchan was shot dead by two motorcycle-borne persons at Prayag Marg, Kathmandu Metropolitan City-32, on Monday for allegedly ‘refusing to pay extortion money to a criminal racket’.

Two days after the broad daylight shooting at a busy thoroughfare of the capital city, the shooters and the perpetrates who mobilised them to kill Gauchan are still at large.

The official said all police units across the country had been asked to step up security and to keep a vigil to ensure that the culprits are apprehended as soon as possible and don’t flee to neighbouring countries.

“Though the culprits managed to flee the crime scene following the murder of Gauchan, we are making progress towards tracing their whereabouts. Details continue to emerge about the gunmen and their bosses,” he claimed.

Nepal Police has already formed a seven-member special probe panel led by DIG Ganesh KC to investigate into the murder and bring the perpetrators to book.
