Plans afoot to give KMC management a face-lift
KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) is mulling to overhaul its governing system, which has frequently been blamed for its poor performances.
The status of the autonomous metropolis has been questioned far and wide for its unsatisfactory performances in the past, said Ganesh Rai, KMC's acting executive chief. "We are planning to revamp its working system based on good governance," he said. The KMC is yet to approve its annual budget for the current fiscal due in mid-July. In one year, KMC saw three executive chiefs, including newly-appointed Rai himself. The delay in budget has stalled all the development activities in the capital.
Acknowledging that the delay in budget had throttled the development works, Rai, however, said, "We're working relentlessly to pass the budget within two weeks." Rai is contemplating over changing the structure of the civic body based on the principle of good governance.
"I am honestly dedicated to reform the metropolis. The service delivery is high on agenda and will be based on support for good governance, service with smile," he said, adding, "Right person will be assigned in the right place."
The civic body with the population of about 1.5 million has about 2,250 employees, including 900 cleaners.
