PM assures SC on quota pledge

Kathmandu, February 15:

Responding to a show cause notice, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ today told the Supreme Court that he was committed to allocate reservation quota for Dalits, Janajatis, women, Madhesi and disadvantaged and backward communities from the cabinet.

The PM said that there was no need to intervene by the apex court as the government was committed to provide the reservation for women, Dalits and Janajatis. He also sought the apex court to nullify the writ petition that demanded the apex court to order the govenrment authorities to secure the reservation quotas.

Seeking the apex court order to the govenrment authorities, advocate Prakash Mani Sharma had filed the writ petition on behalf of the Pro Public, an NGO. The apex court had issued show cause notice to the defendants including PM Prachanda.

The petitioner, citing the apex court order to implement the Article 21 of the Interim Constitution of Nepal, forwarded the apex court order as which has told the govenrment to provide reservation quotas for Dalits, Janajatis, women, Madhesi and people from the backward communities. The PM also added that he was fully aware and committed to implement the provisions of the Constitution.
