KATHMANDU, JANUARY 18
As the deadline for the nomination of candidates contesting the March 5 elections under the first-past-the-post (FPTP) system approaches, Prime Minister Sushila Karki and officials of the Election Commission (EC) held discussions on the relevant matters today.
The meeting took place at the Prime Minister's official residence in Baluwatar, Kathmandu.
Minister for Finance Rameshwor Khanal, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Anil Kumar Sinha, Minister for Foreign Affairs Balananda Sharma, and Officiating Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari, among others, deliberated on election-related issues.
The interim government, led by PM Karki, is conducting elections to the House of Representatives on March 5. The EC, a constitutional body, is responsible for overseeing and monitoring the elections.
The deadline for the nomination of FPTP candidates is January 20. Political parties are making final efforts to finalize their candidates across 165 constituencies nationwide.
Meanwhile, the election code of conduct will come into effect from midnight tonight.
