KATHMANDU, JULY 21

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has secured a vote of confidence in the House of Representatives (HoR), today.

In the HoR meeting, 188 lawmakers voted in favor of the motion, 74 voted against it, and 1 remained neutral. A total of 263 lawmakers were present at the parliament today.

PM Oli received votes from Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, Janamat Party, Janata Samajwadi Party, Loktantrik Samajwadi Party, Nagarik Unmukti Party and some independent MPs. Meanwhile, CPN-MC, Rastriya Swatantra Party and Rastriya Prajatantra Party voted against the motion.

A total of 138 votes are required for a majority in the 275-member HoR.

In the parliament, Nepali Congress has 88 members, CPN-UML has 79 members. The CPN-MC, the House's third-largest party, has only 32 seats, RSP has 21 members, while CPN (US) has 10 members.

PM Oli had decided to under go floor test at the Parliament after he was appointed as Prime Minister by President Ramchandra Paudel on July 14, supported by the Nepali Congress.

This follows the requirement under Article 76 (4) of the Constitution of Nepal, which mandates the prime minister to seek a vote of confidence within 30 days of their appointment under Article 76 (2).

In today's trust motion, RSP and CPN (US) had issued whip to its Member of parliaments to vote against the motions.

Nepali Congress and CPN-UML have agreed to form a new power alliance and establish a new national consensus government, wherein the two parties would take turns leading the government.
