KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal today sought clarification from Karima Begum, State Minister for Agriculture and Cooperatives, for slapping Parsa CDO Durga Prasad Bhandari.
The PM also instructed her to accept her mistake in the incident. Subsequently, minister Begum conceded her weakness before the PM. Amid hue and cry over the minister's highhandedness, PM Nepal had summoned her for clarification.
After emerging from the PM's office following the clarification, the minister, however, denied admitting her fault while slapping the senior government official.
"I slapped him as he disobeyed and dishonoured me," she repeated her earlier statement.
She had spanked the CDO for sending her an old vehicle to receive the local airport a couple of weeks ago.
Meanwhile, today's cabinet meeting decided that the government would bear all the treatment expenses of former Prime Minister and Nepali Congress President Girija Prasad Koirala, who is receiving treatment in Singapore.
According to Shankar Pokharel, Minister for Information and Communications, the meeting also wished a speedy recovery of the ailing octogenarian leader.
In another decision, the government decided to form a high-level task force headed by CPN-UML leader Modanath Prashrit to recommend the government about the criteria and definition of martyrdom.
Likewise, Bharat Bahadur Chand and joint secretary Dipak Upadhaya have been appointed as the chairman and general manager, respectively, of Nepal Timber Corporation. It also appointed Ein Bahadur Rana as the investigation director of National Investigation Department.
The Cabinet meeting also gave green signal for an agreement with World Bank to acquire a total of $ 95 million as loan and grant for School Area Improvement Programme, according to the minister. It also allowed the Finance Ministry to acquire grant from Asian Development Bank for Small Urban Drinking Water and Sanitation Programme.
