PM stresses on better education
KATHMANDU: Prime Minister and chancellor of the Tribhuvan University Madhav Kumar Nepal Wednesday said that it was inappropriate to turn educational institutions into a platform for political debates. Speaking at the 34th convocational programme of the TU in Kirtipur, PM Nepal said the educational institutions were parlaysed by political intervention time and again. The PM stressed on quality education for the betterment of the country as it was the industry to rear future builders of the state. He confessed that the educational institutions have failed to meet their goals.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal was greeted with black flags by the activists of UCPN-Maoist when he was attending the 34th convocation programme of the Tribhuvan University on Wednesday. The police resorted to baton charge to disperse the agitating UCPN-Maoist cadres who made their way to the venue posing as guests of the programme. They began chanting slogans demanding the reinstatement of civilian supremacy as soon as the PM began addressing the programme. Around a dozen police personnel and protestors were injured when a scuffle broke out. The police also arrested around ten protestors who were preventing the PM from attending the programme. However, the PM continued to address the programme amid the protests. A large number of security personnel were deployed at the programme venue to prevent the protestors from getting access to the venue. However, the protestors chanted anti-government slogans some 100 metres away from the venue.
