Kathmandu, April 8
Police baton charged cadres and supporters of Kamal Thapa-led Rastriya Prajatantra Party today during their protest march at Putalisadak.
Spokesperson for Rastriya Prajatantra Party Mohan Shrestha said police illegally used force against his party’s supporters when they were peacefully protesting against the government. Police resorted to baton charge and fired tear gas shells to disperse RPP protesters who had stopped vehicular movement on the road.
Today’s protest programmes were part of Rastriya Prajatantra Party series of protests it has announced seeking implementation of 22-point charter of its demands that calls for restoration of Hindu state and constitutional monarchy.
Shrestha said 39 protesters sustained minor injuries during the baton charge. They all returned home after receiving treatment for minor injuries.
RPP supporters had planned to stage a sit-in in front of Singha Durbar, chief ministers’ offices and district administration offices.
