Police foil robbery bid after shootout

Kathmandu, January 16:

Police today foiled an attempt to rob a person off Rs 2 lakh at Kiranchowk, Baluwatar, after opening fire at him. The three persons allegedly involved in the crime were immediately arrested.

“When we reached the spot, we saw an injured man flanked by two persons, one of who was carrying a pistol, It turned out that the injured man, Prakash KC, was a cashier at the Khajuri cookies Pvt Ltd and was being robbed,” DSP Bikash Khanal at the Metropolitan Police Circle, Maharajgunj, said.

The police said they immediately took two persons under control and rushed KC to the TU Teaching Hospital, Maharajgunj.

Those arrested were later identified as Dipu Prajapati, 24, and Denip Thapaliya, 19, of Bishalnagar. Police seized a pistol and three bullets from them and impounded their motorcycle on which the duo was trying to flee. The culprits had covered the number plate of the motorcycle by overlapping it with a paper reading ‘ON-TEST’.

KC, a resident of Jharubarasi in Lalitpur, was returning from MC Provisional Store with Rs 2 lakh in cash. “When we interrogated them, we came to know that 32-year-old Anil Dhakal of the Provisional Store was also involved in the robbery bid,” Khanal said.

Khanal, quoting Denip, said Anil was the mastermind. Anil, however, reportedly admitted that he passed the information but did nothing beyond that.
