Police launch manhunt as robbers flee with cash, gold

KATHMANDU: The police have intensified search operation to track down a gang of unidentified persons who robbed Rs 2 million and gold ornaments from Bhojpura Dingla Jewelry Shop in Old Baneshwor on Wednesday evening. The Khukri-wielding gang were said to be four in numbers. Earlier, it was learnt that they had robbed 50 tolas of gold ornaments.

According to the police, the robbers had barged into the jewelry shop and took Dwarika Shankar, the owner, and his two assistants under control before fleeing the scene with the cash and gold ornaments. Shankar was closing the daily account when the robbers entered the shop. The robbers had reportedly locked him and his two assistants up inside the shop and fled the scene.

Superintendent of Police Ganesh KC, in-charge, Metropolitan Police Range, Hanumandhoka said that it appeared to be a well-planned robbery and the police was committed to bring the culprits to justice.

“Metropolitan Police Range in association with Metropolitan Police Crime Division has launched a man-hunt,” he informed. No arrests have been made till this evening.
