Police targeted in Matatirtha gunfire; suspects at large
KATHMANDU: A group of jeep passengers reportedly opened fire on a police team in Matatirtha of Kathmandu on Thursday morning.
Police said the team of law enforcement personnel was targeted by four passengers of a Tata Sumo jeep (Na 1 Ja 3948), which was en route to Lalbandi of Sarlahi via Chitlang of Makawanpur, at Chihan Danda of Matatirtha today.
While police stopped the vehicle for regular security check, they opened fire twice, police said. In retaliation, they had also opened the fire twice.
After the police retaliation, those aboard the vehicle left the vehicle on the way and run away toward the Matatirtha forest.
Police said they recovered a box like bank locker, a driving licence issued with the name of Harka Bahadur Tamang, a permanent resident of Phakhel-5 of Makawanpur district and a copy of citizenship belonging to Ganga Tamang, a permanent resident of Sukajor-6 of Ramechhap district from the vehicle.
It has been learned that the vehicle was driven by Kumar Lama of Phakhel, Makawanpur and owned by Anita Lama of Kuleshwor in the Capital.
The suspects, however, are at large and police are looking for them.
