Post-poll scenario okay, says ANFREL

Kathmandu, April 27:

Asian Network for Free Elections (ANFREL) today stated that the post-election environment has been largely peaceful.

Issuing the post-election report, the ANFREL said the counting, complains, procedures and re-polling have been carried out sufficiently well for the results of the election to be broadly accepted both by the parties and the public.

“The re-polling was held satisfactorily in the majority of polling stations observed by ANFREL. The problems observed during re-polling reflect those seen in a minority of stations on election day itself, including underage voting, multiple voting, unauthorised entry into polling stations by political party representatives, and intimidation of voters and polling officials,” the report stated.

It also said that holding of the Constituent Assembly elections in post-conflict environment was a testament to the commitment and courage of the election stakeholders from the Election Commission to voters themselves.

“The collective lessons learnt from the elections will serve as a valuable guide for future elections as Nepal steps forward into its new role of a democratic republic,” the report stated.
