Powell to submit credentials on Aug 9

Kathmandu, July 29:

The new United States ambassador to Nepal, Nancy J Powell, is scheduled to submit her credentials to Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala on August 9.

“She would submit her credentials to Prime Minister Koirala at the State Hall in Singa Durbar at 4:00 pm,” according to an official at the Ministry of Foreign affairs (MoFA).

A few other non-residential ambassadors from various countries to Nepal are also scheduled to submit their credentials on the same day.

The MoFA official could not name the non-residential ambassadors, who are based in New Delhi.

US ambassador Powell will be the fifth lady resident US ambassador to Nepal. Born in 1947, she joined Foreign Service in 1977. Powell, who studied French, Nepali and Urdu, has served in Pakistan as an US ambassador from 2002-2004, and in Ghana from 2001 to 2002.
