President Bhandari inspects renovation in Bhaktapur heritage site

BHAKTAPUR: President Bidya Devi Bhandari on Tuesday inspected the ongoing renovation work in the Bhaktapur Darbar Square which was badly hit by the April 2015 Nepal earthquake.

She inspected various temples and monuments at the UNESCO World Heritage Site on the occasion of the second anniversary of the devastating earthquake today.

On the occasion, the head of the state emphasised renovating the heritage site maintaining its originality and cultural aspects.

She also stressed using local resources and manpower on reconstruction work.

Chief District Officer Drona Pokharel, Local Coordination Committee chief Dhruba Bahadur Koirala, Bhaktapur Municipality chief Rohitraj Pokharel among other concerned officials briefed the President about the progress on reconstruction work.

At least 860 monuments, including 172 temples, 37 sattals, 256 patis, 88 stone spouts, 252 wells, 36 ponds and 29 monasteries among others, were destroyed in the earthquake two years ago.
