President enacts bills to restructure judiciary

KATHMANDU: President Bidya Devi Bhandari on Monday certified four bills endorsed by the Parliament recently to let the government restructure judiciary in line with the new Constitution.

The President's Office informed in a statement today that the Head of the State enacted the Supreme Court Act First Amendment Bill, Judicial Administration Bill, Judicial Service Commission Bill and Judicial Council Bill.

The enactment was made in accordance to Article 113.2 of the Constitution.

The Parliament on Sunday had endorsed the three bills except the first one.

With enactment of the new laws, the existing 16 Appellate Courts would be dissolved and seven High Courts would be formed, following provisions of the new Constitution promulgated last year.
