KATHMANDU, JANUARY 26
Lieutenant General Richard Wardlaw OBE, Colonel Commandant Brigade of Gurkhas of British Army presented the annual report of The Brigade of Gurkhas to President Ram Chandra Poudel at the Office of the President, Shital Niwas, in Kathmandu, on Friday.
UK Ambassador to Nepal, Rob Fenn, Colonel Paul Smith (Defence Attache' / Commander British Gurkhas Nepal), Colonel David Robinson (Colonel Brigade of Gurkhas), and Major Dhir Pun (Assistant Military Attache') were also present during the submission of the report.
During the presentation, President Poudel said that maintaining peace, stability and freedom in the world is the common goal of Nepal and the United Kingdom and expressed that they should move forward by supporting each other,
President Poudel also said that the Gurkha regiment is a bridge between Nepal and the UK and expressed his confidence that ongoing diplomatic discussions will lead to a resolution of issues concerning the former British Gurkhas, with the hope for a generous and harmonious outcome from the United Kingdom.
During the report presentation, Wardlaw underscored that the world holds immense respect and appreciation for the professionalism, dedication, and bravery of the Gorkhali army, not only the United Kingdom. He expressed his belief that as long as the British Gorkhas exist, they will continue to serve as excellent ambassadors for the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal.
In the report,looking back to the year 2023, the Brigade of Gorkhas has played its important role in making the world a safe place and despite the international uncertainty, the prestige and effectiveness of the Gorkhas has been maintained.
