New President takes oath of office and secrecy from CJ, assumes office

KATHMANDU: Newly elected President of Nepal Bidya Devi Bhandari on Thursday took the oath of office and secrecy from Chief Justice Kalyan Shrestha.

At a function organised at the President's Office, Sheetal Niwas, CJ Shrestha administered the oath to Bhandari this afternoon.

Outgoing President Ram Baran Yadav, Vice-President Paramananda Jha, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Speaker Onsari Gharti, among others were present on the occasion.

Immediately after the swearing-in, outgoing President Yadav handed over the chair of President to Bhandari.

Yadav, then, left the stage.

After receiving congratulations and felicitations from guests of the ceremony, Bhandari assumed her office today itself.
