Pressure on prez to issue NA ordinance
Kathmandu, December 25
Sister organisations of the Nepali Congress have demanded immediate issue of ordinance related to formation of National Assembly.
Organising a press conference today, the organisations expressed sadness, saying the ordinance sent by the incumbent government to the Office of the President two months ago had not been issued yet.
On the occasion, President of Nepal Women Association Uma Regmi said holding the elections of parliamentary and provincial assemblies as well as National Assembly is the responsibility of the incumbent government, adding there is a mandatory provision in the constitution that there should be 33 per cent representation of women in the House of Representatives and National Assembly.
A press release distributed at the programme stated that it was sad that the ordinance had been lingering for the past two months on the pretext of consultation even after a clear provision in the constitution that following and protecting the constitution was the responsibility of the president and the role of the president was only that of a rubber-stamp.
NWA President Regmi, President of Nepal Tarun Dal Jit Jung Basnet, President of Nepal Students Union Nain Singh Mahar, President of Nepal Press Union Badri Sigdel, President of Democratic Lawyers Association Bharat Prasad Kharel and Acting President of Nepal Dalit Association Shambhu Hajara Paswan, warned of stringent protest if the ordinance was not issued.
