KATHMANDU: President Bidya Devi Bhandari has extended wishes to all Nepalis on the occasion of Vivaha Panchami festival today.

The Head-of-State has also hoped that the festival would help in consolidating harmony and goodwill among people belonging to different religions, cultures and communities in the country.

The festival is celebrated with special importance as per the description in Ramayan composed by Goswami Tulsidas by the Mithila people to commemorate the wedding ceremony of Sita, the daughter of King Janak with Lord Ram.

The festival is to commemorate the wedding that took place in Treta Yuga and is regarded as the largest festival in Tarai.

People believe that their dreams get fulfilled after participating in the wedding ceremony festival.
