Oli to visit Vietnam, Cambodia next week

  • Oli will promote investment and tourism in Nepal during his visits to Vietnam, Cambodia

Kathmandu, May 2

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli will visit Vietnam and Cambodia from May 9 to 15.

Oli will leave Kathmandu for Vietnam on May 9 at the invitation of Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyn Xuân Phúc.

Informing media about Oli’s upcoming foreign visits in Singha Durbar, Minister of Foreign Affairs Pradeep Kumar Gyawali said major objectives of the visit were to promote investment in Nepal and promote tourism.

Besides, Nepal has many things to learn from Vietnam’s rapid economic growth over the past 30 years of the country emerging from war, said Gyawali. “Since majority of Vietnamese population is Buddhist, promotion of religious tourism can be a key opportunity,” he said.

In Vietnam, Oli will also take part in Vesak ceremony, or Buddha Jayanti, and address the event. The event will see participation of heads of state from various countries.

Besides holding bilateral talks with his Vietnamese counterpart, Oli will also address an event organised by a Vietnamese think-tank named Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics.

Oli will leave for Cambodia on May 13. The PM is visiting Cambodia at the invitation of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen who had visited Nepal during the Asia Pacific Summit, held in Kathmandu last year.

Gyawali said tourism and investment promotion would top agenda in bilateral talks in Cambodia as well. “Some agreements with both the countries will also be signed during PM Oli’s visit,” he said.
