Prime Minister, Tharu lawmakers discuss Tikapur incident

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sushil Koirala and the Constituent Assembly members from the Tharu community discussed the incident of violence that took place in Tikapur on Monday and the ongoing agitation of the Tharuhat Tharuwan Joint Struggle Committee.

The discussions held at the Prime Minister’s official residence at Baluwatar focused on the Tikapur incident and the developments since that incident among other issues, said Committee spokesperson and CA member Aman Lal Modi.

He said that they drew the attention of the Prime Minister to the today’s incident in which the house of one Tharu CA member has been torched by the protesters, adding that they have demanded to stop such activities immediately.

Modi stated that the Struggle Committee has consistently been holding peaceful agitation sticking to its agenda and demanded addressing it by political means.

He described Monday’s incident as saddening and reiterated that they were always in favour of peaceful movement.
