Priority would be given to constitution implementation: Speaker Mahara
KATHMANDU: Newly elected Speaker of the House of Representatives, Krishna Bahadur Mahara, has said that he would assume his duties with a major focus on implementation of the Constitution drafted by the people.
In a brief conversation with journalists at the HoR meeting today, after being unanimously elected to the post of Speaker, Mahara expressed his commitment to work in the formulation of essential laws. "All the political parties have given me an important responsibility, and now my priority will be to draft necessary laws," he said.
Mahara also said that he would work comprehending the fact that parliament is a source of people's faith and it is also a ground to resolve all problems.
Upon election, Mahara was congratulated by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, main opposition leader Sher Bahadur Deuba, CPN MC Chair Puspa Kamal Dahal, Members of Parliament and MP Secretariat.
Meanwhile, the newly elected Speaker is scheduled to take the oath of office and secrecy from President Bidya Devi Bhandari amid a function at 11:00 am in Rastrapati Bhawan, Sheetal Niwas on Sunday, according to the President's chief personal secretary Bhesh Raj Adhikari, as quoted in Rastriya Samachar Samiti.
