Prisoners call off strike
Kathmandu, April 28:
Prisoners, who were on a fast-unto-death at Sadarkhor detention centre, today called off the strike after the government assured them to ‘consider’ their demands.
Human rights activists Sudip Pathak, Padma Ratna Tuladhar and parliamentarian Harihar Dahal offered juice to 182 protesting prisoners. Over seven thousand prisoners across the country are on strike since April 18 demanding general amnesty in the context of Nepal heading for new system.
“The prisoners should be given amnesty and all the prisons should be vacated to realise the dream of a new Nepal,” the prisoners said in a press release issued today.
Yesterday, they submitted a memorandum to the office of Prime Ministers and its copies to a number of human rights and social organisations and other concerned government offices.
