Promotion of senior cops in interest of Nepal Police, says home minister

Kathmandu, July 16

Minister for Home Affairs Janardan Sharma today said the recommendations made for the promotion of senior police officers recently were in the interest of Nepal Police.

Speaking at a programme organised at NP Headquarters in Naxal to mark the 29th Police Communication Day, the home minister said, “I am well aware that some individuals have been hurt by these recommendations for promotion. Maybe it did injustice to some individuals, but has done institutional justice to the police organisation. All aspirants of promotion could not be accommodated in the list due to some problems and situations,” he said, without elaborating.

On a different note, Minister Sharma stressed the need for hi-tech smart policing to enhance the efficiency of Nepal Police. “Only the police equipped with necessary technology can win people’s trust. Technology also strengthens their professionalism,” he said.

Minister Sharma also warned police personnel against running ‘propaganda section’.
