Proposed media fiat discussed
Kathmandu: Nepal Cable Television Sangh organised an interaction on Friday on the proposed Broadcasting Ordinance. Government representatives and stakeholders participated in the meet.
State Minister for Information and Communication, Shrish Shumsher Rana, said broadcasting entrepreneurs themselves had demanded an authority to strengthen their professionalism.
“If the broadcasting professionals are ready to work in a modern working atmosphere, they should also welcome a modern regulatory ordinance,” he said. “Is it proper to let FM stations air news when we cannot protect our radio towers?” he asked. Rana, labelling the FM stations “Maoist friendly,” asked the stations the reason for keeping mum on Maoist atrocities.
