Protest against fuel price hike continues
Kathmandu, August 29:
The eight agitating student unions continued their protests against hike in the price of petroleum products in front of campuses in the Kathmandu Valley this morning. The demonstrators burnt tyres and chanted slogans against price hike. The students clashed with cops for half-an-hour in front of the Pashupati Multiple Campus in Chabahil, blocking traffic movement. Similar clashes took place in front of Bishwo Bhasha Campus and Ratna Rajya Laxmi Campus at the Exhibition Road in the evening.
Meanwhile, four student activists were arrested from a demonstration at TU central campus in Kirtipur. Police arrested Nepal Students’ Union TU committee chief Jeet Jung Basnet, Anjan Lama, Mohan Bhattarai and Jeeb Lal Kharel. Pranay Singh Munna, TU unit president of the Nepal Students’ Union, said they would launch strong protest programmes against the arrest of the four student activists. The student unions have been staging demonstrations against the recent hike in the price of petroleum products since last Friday.
