Gen Z demonstrators hurl stones and set fire amid anti-corruption protests
LALITPUR, SEPTEMBER 9
Protesters on Tuesday morning attacked the residence of Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda', chairman of the Nepal Communist Party (Maoist Centre), in Khumaltar, Lalitpur.
The demonstrators, largely from the Gen Z movement protesting against corruption, first hurled stones at the residence and later set parts of the property on fire.
Police reported that a large crowd had gathered in Khumaltar since early morning, and security personnel were attempting to control the situation. Some police barricades were reportedly damaged during the clash.
Authorities have imposed curfews in key areas of Kathmandu, Lalitpur, and Bhaktapur to control the escalating protests, which have so far resulted in multiple fatalities and hundreds of injuries nationwide.
