‘Punish online media misuse’

Speakers at a function organised by Press Council Nepal today stressed on the need to check violations of the code of conduct by journalists.

At a discussion programme organised by PCN on ‘compliance of code of conduct in online media’ in the capital, participating speakers urged journalists to follow the code of conduct while exercising their right to freedom of expression.

PCN Chairperson Borna Bahadur Karki said action should be taken against those misusing online media. He shared that the preparation is underway to slap action against those operating online media without having legal registration.

Metropolis Crime Division Chief SSP Sarbendra Khanal also noted the importance of regulating online media operating without registration.

He shared that cyber related crimes were on the rise of late in the name of online journalism and that the entire media would lose public trust if this trend was not controlled.
