Dahal assures PM Deuba of CPN-MC’s support to govt

Kathmandu, October 3

CPN-Maoist Centre Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal today assured Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba his  party would continue supporting the coalition government till the provincial and parliamentary elections slated for November 26 and December 7.

As news of electoral alliance and possible unity between CPN-UML and CPN-MC hit the headlines, Deuba met Dahal twice today and urged him to stick to the current alliance.

Sources said Dahal explained his party’s stance to Prime Minister Deuba during the   second meeting.

The PM’s senior media adviser Govinda Pariyar said Dahal clarified that his party’s coalition with the CPN-UML was  only for the elections. Dahal also said the Nepali Congress-CPN-MC alliance would not break.  Dahal explained that the process of leftist alliance had started and it could even culminate in unification of the two parties.

According to NC leader Bimalendra Nidhi, Deuba had asked Dahal about the UML-MC agreement in their first meeting and the latter briefed him. “Deuba urged Dahal not to break the alliance at least till the upcoming provincial and parliamentary elections,” Nidhi said.

The meeting was held after the main opposition UML and MC agreed to forge electoral  alliance.
