Dahal urged to take steps to save Dr KC’s life
Kathmandu, August 13
Doctors of the Institute of Medicine, resident doctors and medical students today submitted a memorandum to former prime minister and CPN-Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, requesting him to take immediate action to save Dr Govinda KC’s life.
Dr KC, an orthopaedic surgeon, has been on a fast unto death for the past 20 days, demanding immediate passage of the Medical Education Bill as per the recommendation made by the Kedar Bhakta Mathema-led panel.
However, no meeting took place between the government and Dr KC’s team today. Dr KC’s team held informal meetings with former health minister Gagan Thapa and senior leader of CPN-Maoist Centre Narayan Kaji Shrestha.
“The government talks team has become unresponsive. The government talks team doesn’t want to discuss the Medical Education Bill,” informed Dr Abhishek Raj Singh, a member of Dr KC’s talks team.
Dr KC’s team also met Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba.
At a press meet, Health Minister Giriraj Mani Pokharel said the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Health were working to fulfil Dr KC’s demands.
