KATHMANDU, MAY 25

Rabindra Mishra resigned as the President of Bibeksheel Sajha Party, on Wednesday.

Mishra claimed he is stepping down from the post on moral grounds owing to the party's dismal results in recently held local elections.

"Despite my selfless and honest efforts as the party coordinator and then as president for the last five years, I am standing down effective immediately to accept responsibility for the party's dismal performance in local elections," Mishra said in a statement issued earlier today.

He joined the Sajha Party in 2017, leaving his profession as a BBC journalist behind.

He also stated that he will remain a general member of the party.

The party's central executive committee and central committee will determine how to move the party forward after extensive debate and assessment, he continued.
