Rally held to express solidarity with Dr KC

Hundreds of youths participated in a mass rally organised to express solidarity with the demands of senior orthopaedic surgeon Dr Govinda KC here today.

Some 200 youths participated in the rally organised at Maitighar Mandala by  Solidarity for Dr KC Alliance.

Youths participating in the rally accused the government of supporting the ‘medical mafia’ and chanted slogans against the Oli-led government. They also requested the government to endorse the National Medical Education Bill as per agreement between Dr KC and the government.

In the same way, issuing a press statement today, Nepal Medical Association requested the government not to compel Dr KC to stage fast-unto-death time and again.  NMA also requested the government to save the life of Dr KC and end his hunger strike not for once but for forever.

Dr KC has put forth six-point demand, including passage of National Medical Education Bill without any changes and action against 43 officials of Tribhuvan University as per the recommendation made by the high level National Medical Education Commission led by former Judge Gauri Bahadur Karki. He has also demanded a fair investigation into Nirmala Panta rape and murder case.

Likewise, the demand also states that a case of criminal offence be lodged against persons involved in destroying evidence, creating false evidence, torturing and opening fire at people demanding justice for Nirmala.

Dr KC has also demanded action against officials of Kathmandu University, who were involved hiking tuition fees.
