KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 11

Suspended Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher JB Rana told the impeachment recommendation committee that he had committed no wrongdoing in the new Supreme Court building construction being carried out at a cost of around five billion rupees.

During his testimony before the panel, Rana said SC Justice Hari Krishna Karki was the chair of Court Management Committee when the decision on tender for the Rs 5 billion SC building project was issued. He said Justice Prakash Man Singh Raut, SC officials Nripdhwaj Niraula, Lal Bahadur Kunwar, Narayan Panthi, and Narayan Regmi were in the committee. "This does not mean irregularity has been committed in the project," Rana said.

Rana's role in the project was questioned as the issue, which had to be dealt with by the SC registrar, was dealt with by Rana himself. He said he put his signature in the project as the prevailing rules required it because he was the head of the SC. He accused Acting CJ Deepak Kumar Karki of raising this issue in his attempt to become the CJ.

Rana appreciated the then prime minister KP Sharma Oli and for making land available and former finance minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel for budget for the building..
