RPP CWC meet decides to support statute amendment
- Party entrusts CWEC with deciding whether it should join the government
Kathmandu, July 21
The Rastriya Prajatantra Party has decided to support the constitution amendment proposal registered in the Parliament.
The party Central Working Committee meeting took a decision to this effect. The meeting also entrusted its Central Work Execution Committee with deciding on whether to join the government.
The party concluded that its poor show in the civic polls was due to its inability to take the party’s agenda to the local levels.
The meeting demanded that the government print the image of Prithvi Narayan Shah, the unifier of modern Nepal, on currency notes to promote a feeling of national unity among Nepalis.
Endorsing the political report presented by party Chair Kamal Thapa, report by General Secretary Dhruba Bahadur Pradhan on local level elections and the report on party organisational structure and future strategy tabled by party another General Secretary Jayant Chand, the meeting also constituted an election mobilisation committee for Province 2 under the convenorship of party Vice-chair Buddhiman Tamang.
However, party senior leader Pashupati Shamser Rana boycotted the meeting. The meeting, pledging to set the party’s principles in line with the constitution, stated that the party would play a crucial role in holding provincial and parliamentary elections on time.
Wishing for speedy recovery of ailing former king Gyanendra Shah, the party has demanded old-age allowance for citizens above 60 years of age.
The meeting also decided to form religion and culture council to advocate for the establishment of Nepal as a Hindu nation.
Making public the decisions taken by the meeting, Chairman Thapa reiterated that the party would participate in the upcoming elections as a united block by addressing the differing views seen in the party.
