RPP national general convention kicks off

KATHMANDU: The national general convention of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) has kicked off in Bhrikutimandap of Kathmandu on Friday.

The convention is the first after the unification of the Kamal Thapa-chaired RPP-Nepal and Pahsupati Shamsher Rana-chaired RPP on November 22, 2016.

In the convention, incumbent Chair Kamal Thapa would now be facing Prakash Chandra Lohani for the post of Chairman. The election procedures would begin in the closed-door session on Saturday.

The party would also constitute a 161-member central committee and another 24-member working committee from the convention. Election procedure for this would start on Saturday.

As many as 3,315 representatives and 300 observers would take part in the convention that would continue till February 20. Representatives from 30 countries have also been invited in the programme.

Thousands of party cadres and members have gathered in Kathmandu to attend the convention.

Before the inauguration session at Bhrikutimandap today, various sister organisations of the RPP organised rallies from 54 different places in Kathmandu Valley including Balaju, New Bus Park, Gaushala, Satdobato, Balkhu and Kalanki.

The rallies had thrown the Valley traffic management into shambles for at least a couple of hours.
