Rayamajhi panel sworn in

Kathmandu, May 10:

The Rayamajhi panel, which has been appointed to probe into excesses committed during the royal regime after the king took over on February 1, 2005 and report to the government within the next two months, moved into its office on the premises of Ministry of General Administration in Lalitpur today.

Chief Justice Dilip Kumar Paudel sworn in former SC justice Rayamajhi, who is coordinator of the commission, and other members of the panel — Harihar Birahi, Dr Krishna Shrestha, Ram Prasad Shrestha and Ram Kumar Shrestha.

Rayamajhi told mediapersons at his new office that the government would have to ensure that those who had any hand in the suppression do not get away while the commission gets down to work.

“Government will have to be alert in this regard. We must have access to people we want to interrogate as and when the need arises,” he added.
