Reconstruction grants to self-made houses also

KATHMANDU: In view of the construction of houses by the earthquake survivors on their own after the government delayed grants, the meeting of the National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) held in the presence of the Prime Minister decided to provide the grants to the houses of people's choices also, if they were found quake resistant.

The NRA meeting held under the chairmanship of PM KP Sharma Oli took such a decision on Sunday.

NRA Spokesperson Ram Prasad Thapaliya said those having their records in the Central Bureau of Statistics as the quake survivors having begun the construction before the agreement with NRA would get the government grants once their houses were found quake resistant during the inspection by the NRA technologists.

He made it clear that if the members of any family (for example, brothers) were found living under a single household before April 25 quake as recorded by the concerned District Land Revenue Office, they would get the grants as a single family.
