‘Rectify ambassador nominations’

Kathmandu, April 29

Inter Party Women’s Alliance has urged the government to correct the decision to recommend names for appointment as ambassadors, saying it was in contravention of the spirit of the new constitution.

Organising a press conference in Kathmandu today, it claimed that the government had gone against the constitution.

As per the clause 4 of Article 38 of the new constitution, women should be proportionately represented in all state mechanisms.

But in contrast, of 21 only 14.21 per cent women have been recommended for the ambassadorial posts.

Chairperson of the alliance Sashi Shrestha demanded that the government forthwith correct its ‘faulty’ decision.

She said at least one-third of recommendations for the ambassadorial posts should include women’s names based on proportional representation.
