Remand sought against SSP Shyam Khatri at court

KATHMANDU: The Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police on Monday has presented SSP Shyam Khatri at the Kathmandu District Court seeking a remand for further investigation.

The CIB had arrested him from the Nepal Police Headquarters yesterday in connection to a seizure of 33 kg gold from near the Tribhuvan International Airport on January 5.

It has been learned that police were preparing to file a case against him under the Prevention of Organised Crime Act, 2013.

Khatri was recalled to the Headquarters from the Metropolitan Police Airport Security Office for investigation few days after the January 5 incident.

The CIB had arrested Khatri based on the statements recorded from other suspects who were held in the same connection.

On January 5, police had arrested three suspected smugglers in possession of the 33 kg hallmark gold from Pingalasthan near the nation’s sole international airport after the trio successfully skipped security checks at the TIA.
