Rift surfaces in students’ alliance

Kathmandu, December 13:

Since two major student unions failed to turn up in the eight students union meeting a couple of times, the remaining six have decided to continue with their ongoing agitation.

According to Jivan Gautam, president of All Nepal National Free Students’ Union-Unified, Nepal Students’ Union and All Nepal National Free Students’ Union failed to attend the meeting called to discuss a new protest plan twice.

“We will meet the Minister for Labour and Transport Management tomorrow and decide on our further protest plans accordingly,” he said. The meeting of the six student unions held here yesterday evening decided to carry on their agitation against the government.

The meeting was attended by representatives of CPN-ML-affiliated All Nepal National Free Students’ Union, All Nepal National Free Students’ Union-Unified, All Nepal National Independent Students’ Union-Revolutionary, Nepal Revolutionary Students’ Union, Nepal National Students’ Federation close to CPN-Samyukta and the Sadbhawana-affiliate Nepal Students’ Forum.

Both NSU and ANNFSU have said they would not be a part of the alliance unless the ANNISU-R mends its ways.

Gautam said the six student union alliance would raise the issue of profit made by Nepal Oil Corporation at the cost of poor people.
