RJP-N not to join govt

Kathmandu, June 24

Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal leader Rajendra Mahato said that his party had no plan to join the KP Sharma Oli-led government.

He said that his party would live up to the expectation of Madhesi people who protested for six months braving all odds and sacrificing their lives to see the new constitution amended.

When asked if the RJP-N would also join the government after the Federal Socialist Forum- Nepal’s participation in the government, Mahato said, “None of our demands has been addressed. Our cadres and leaders continue to contest false cases slapped by the government. Our lawmaker Resham Lal Chaudhary has not been able to take oath of office and secrecy. How can we join the government?”

Mahato said that it would be suicidal for the RJP-N if it joined the government without its demands being addressed by the ruling parties. “People despise the Federal Socialist Forum-Nepal for joining the government without the Madhesi people’s demands being addressed. People still have faith in our party and we do not want to betray them,” he said.

Mahato said that the ruling party leaders were not sincere when they said that the constitution could be amended on the basis of rationale and necessity.
